On any campus, online shopping outlets have become a necessity to traveling students and a few companies have recognized this.

Two of my personal favorite are Karma Loop and Lulu’s.

As the hipster vibe returns to the world, so do their staple articles of clothing. Karma Loop tends to both the needs of hipster men and women, while Lulu’s does only to women. Both are the way of the future for fashion.

Our generation has taken the image from such bands and mainstreamed it to the general public through our fashion choices (think rock t-shirts paired with skinny jeans instead of the platform shoe and bell-bottomed low risers). This shift has come to the dismay of the original listeners who appreciated the heavy sound of Jack White long before our local sorority girls were rocking out to it on the elliptical at the gym. The question is: do these people really enjoy the energized sound of bands like Arcade Fire, or is it the idea of living on the fringe of society and wearing the clothes that the celebrities are currently styling?

This alternative rock sound originated out of an effort to be different from mainstream pop culture, but now that your average guy and gal are listening to these hits, it may be losing many of its original listeners. Will a new level of extreme music be created in the coming years to out-beat the increasingly popular sound of alternative rock? I hope so.

We are now praying for music to turn from alternative pop back to alternative rock, to help us find the bands that we haven’t heard yet, and to shake it up a bit. Perhaps the damage has been done in this new age of music, but I know that many music lovers out there are hoping to again find the classic alternative rock we grew up with.

Luckily, those attending the event last night showed up in considerably more clothing, but the night was not without its share of bloopers. Matthew McConaughey mispronounced co-star Ryan Phillippe’s last name, and Justin Timberlake revealed that “the red carpet has a fuschia-thing going on. It’s not red.” Who knew?

Here are some of my favorites:

Showing up on best-dressed lists everywhere, Mila Kunis arrived in a sexy, yet tasteful, lavender Elie Saab gown.

Celine Dion showed up in a silvery streamlined Armani Prive gown, looking poised and elegant as always.

Are we really surprised? Natalie Portman looked effortlessly beautiful in a plum silk chiffon Rodarte gown, baby bump and all.

Jeremy Renner comes out of left field with a blue-lapeled tux.. and having Scarlett on his arm didn’t hurt, either.

Russell Brand is a hate-him-or-love-him kind of guy, and his getup last night was no different. After you get past the “are those stripes..?!” moment, though, it’s obvious that Brand’s outfit reflects his image perfectly. And he brought his mom. Good catch Katy!

Jennifer Hudson showed off her rocking new figure in a tangerine Versace gown. The best part? She’s still got her booty!

I loved Hailee Steinfeld’s performance in True Grit, but her light pink Marchesa gown made me love her even more… especially because she designed it herself. Adorable.

Helena Bonham Carter is continually one of my favorites on the red carpet, and often not even because of a stunning outfit. She has her own style and knows what works for her, and delivers every time.

James Franco’s light blue shirt and navy bowtie played up his originality. But he looks good in anything.

Never the conformist, RDJ suited up in a navy blue tux and white-on-white tie & shirt combo that really stood out from the sea of penguins on the red carpet.

I’m normally not a huge fan of velvet, but I am a huge sucker for one-shouldered numbers. Maria Menounos definitely pulled off this Johanna Johnson gown.

Anne Hathaway’s second (of many) Oscar ensembles was Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci, and had an old-school Hollywood feel to it that was perfect to kick off the night.

Proving that age and beauty are not mutually exclusive, Helen Mirren shone in a ruched gray silk gown by Vivienne Westwood.

One of my favorites of the night, Halle Berry wore a nude Marchesa number with intricate beading and tulle train that was almost as delicate as the actress herself.

I’ll spare you the worst of the bunch, but as always, Hollywood made sure that the web would be buzzing with “Worst-Dressed” hashtags the next day. Christian Bale’s Joaquin Phoenix-inspired mismatched beard, Scarlett Jo’s doily-inspired plum gown, Mandy’s sparkletastic getup.. ouch.

Anne Hathaway and James Franco opened the night with a hilarious Inception parody – complete with Morgan Freeman narration – and continued to entertain throughout. Their skits and overall hosting performance is taking some major hits this morning, but I personally appreciate their efforts to let their personalities shine and keep the night lighthearted and fun. In case you missed it…

Just one more reason to love those two.

Thankfully, I have found a source that has been amazing, time and time again. When I first heard about Kembrel, I too was skeptical. I wasn’t sure if it was a scheme or not, because the prices were so out of the ordinary. However, after buying a necklace from their website, I can assure you that they do exist and that the sales are real! The website gets updated daily, and the sales work on a time limit. I’ve learn to check back often because sales always happen. Kembrel is there for college students to get what they want for less – all clichés aside.

Kembrel has had sales on everything from shoes to jewelry to purses to designer telephones and to headphones. They have done it all! If you still aren’t totally stoked about Kembrel, wait until you hear the companies they work with…

I just thought I’d write a small post in between the last part in my winter mini-blog-series and the next entry (it should be up soon; hopefully, I will take photographs of the trends I’ll be blogging about and post those along with the rest of the entry, so stay tuned!)

Anyways, instead of us giving you tips or sharing our reactions to things, I thought it would be neat to get some input from you guys. My question for you is, what did you wear to holiday parties (if you had one, that is… or, feel free to tell us about what you wore just lounging around!), or plan to? New Year’s? We’d love to hear how everyone is Being fashionable! (excuse the corny attempt at a clever play on words) So leave a comment describing your outfit or link a picture!

As for myself, I was dragged to the annual Christmas Eve party my family goes to, where all my extended family is there and I know maybe an eighth of the people, tops. I wore skinny jeans in a dark gray wash from the Gap with a black scoopneck silk blouse (incidentally, also from the Gap; see left for picture) tucked in with a silver belt, gold Coach flats, & a double braided gold BCBG headband. (Hey, might as well look cute if you’re going to be bored to death!) I normally don’t mix metals, but forgetting to pack my silver flats from school (oops) forced me to be a little adventurous. If I can I’ll try and upload a photo of the whole outfit.

Unfortunately I still have no idea what I’m wearing for New Year’s… which is in 5 days! I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by.

Even if you’re not the most fashionably savvy, (or, maybe even if you are) here are some tips that will help salvage your winter wardrobe and make you look fabulous, even in fifteen degree weather. Hopefully, this will help you see that you don’t have to choose between function and fashion, but can effortlessly rock both! If I’m not too laz-I mean busy, then this will hopefully be part one of a sort-of-series of blogs to help you get through your winter fashionably. Enjoy!

Part I – The Peacoat

First: why a peacoact, instead of some other coat style? It’s a classic winter staple, and one of the easiest ways to update your wardrobe. You could go out wearing the strangest outfit possible underneath, and no one would know because you’d still look polished and put together. Not that there’s anything wrong with that favorite North Face jacket that goes with you everywhere (don’t get me wrong, I love mine!), but for more warmth and polish in the winter months, a peacoat is an understatedly easy way to accomplish this.

If you’re going for a more classic look, look for traditional peacoats in navy, black, tan or gray.

Or, if you’re feeling more adventurous, what better way to brighten up a drab winter day than with a peacoat in a color that pops, like red, yellow, purple, or even white?

Let us imagine a world where designers could no longer follow/lead trends. A world where all skirts had empire waists and where twisted seams could only exist on Stitch’s Jeans. I simply can’t picture such limitations on the fashion industry.

Well, New York’s Senator, Charles E. Schumer, came up with this brilliant idea of copyrighting fashion. He, in an interest to gain a bigger audience pull in the fashion industry, tried to push this ‘fashion protection bill’ into legislation. Thankfully, it burst into flames once the media heard of it.

You see, the fashion world understands that limitations like copyright would kill the industry. Fashion is based in the idea of copying. A trend starts, designers copy the trend, reproduce it, it sells, then it gets old, then a new trend comes along. Look at all the trends (below) that would have never happened had this act been put into law…

Ultimately, copyright would only slow the progression of trends, increase fashion prices, and reduce designers’ creativity. Mr. Schumer, a word of advice from the fashion industry, just let live. Viva la trend!

Homecoming is quickly approaching which means time for school spirit and what better way to show your Bucknell love than through what you wear!  However, be forewarned showing your spirit fashionably is no easy task.  School colors, especially our beloved orange, can be overwhelming and it is easy to go over board.  A safe rule to remember is that less is more.  I would recommend choosing one item of clothing or accessory only.   A cute headband or bow not only shows that you love Bucknell but is an easy way to add some fun to any outfit.

Another accessory that does the same is, my personal favorite, scarves.  Homecoming is the perfect weekend to break out an orange (or blue) scarf to stay warm in the fall weather and show your spirit at the same time.  An orange scarf is surprisingly not easy to find but here are a few great choices:
